Airport Hotels Inside and Outside Changi for Layovers
A detailed comparison of every sleep option at Singapore Changi Airport, from airside transit hotels to the landside YOTELAIR in Jewel and the Crown Plaza.
Changi Airport Transit Hotel Comparison
The departure board shows a 09:45 connection to Sydney and a 10:15 to Ho Chi Minh City, and you are looking at 11 hours between them. The question is not whether to sleep, but where. The answer depends on two variables you have not yet weighed: whether you clear immigration, and how long a booking block you are willing to accept. Access to a shower tips the balance for some, but it is not the deciding factor.
Changi operates as a closed transit zone for more than 100 airlines, so you can stay inside the secure area without a visa for any layover that does not force you to exit. That changes the math entirely. Six sleep options inside the airport terminals and Jewel serve different durations, budgets, and tolerances for public noise.
Hotels Inside the Transit Zone: No Visa Required
Aerotel Singapore (Terminal 1, Transit Side)
This is the newest dedicated transit hotel at Changi, located in Terminal 1 near Gate D41. It operates on a six-hour minimum booking block. The 2024 single-room rate was SGD 91, published by the hotel operator. Additional hours cost SGD 18 each. A shower-only option costs SGD 25 per person. The downside is Terminal 1 access only. If your connecting flight departs from Terminal 2 or 3, budget half an hour for the SkyTrain transfer inside the transit zone.
Ambassador Transit Hotel (Terminals 2 and 3, Transit Side)
Two locations: near Gate E20 in Terminal 2 and near Gate B1 in Terminal 3. The 2024 single-room rate was SGD 95 for a six-hour block, with additional hours at SGD 18. These rooms are older than Aerotel and the finishes show wear. But the Terminal 3 location puts you steps from the departure gates for Qantas, Emirates, and British Airways. The real edge: if your layover is under six hours, skip the hotel entirely and use the nap pods instead.
JetQuay Quayside Sleep Lounge (Terminal 3, Transit Side)
Three-hour minimum at SGD 45 for a nap pod, also a 2024 rate. It sits near Gate B1 on Level 2. This is the right call for layovers of three to five hours, where a full hotel room would waste money on unused hours. The lounge provides a reclining chair in a semi-private cubicle, not a flat bed. Earplugs are supplied. The tradeoff is noise from the transit area corridor outside.
Pay-Per-Use Lounges with Showers
For layovers under three hours, do not book a room. Plaza Premium Lounge in Terminal 1 near Gate C1 costs SGD 58 for three hours, including shower access. Ambassador Transit Lounge in Terminals 2 and 3 costs SGD 53 for five hours. SATS Premier Lounge across Terminals 1, 2, and 3 costs SGD 45 for three hours. Blossom Lounge in Terminal 4 costs SGD 50 for three hours. The 2024 rates come directly from the lounge operators. None require immigration clearance. The shower facilities at Plaza Premium and Ambassador are the best maintained. SATS has cleaner food options.
Landside Hotels: Visa Required, More Space
If your layover exceeds eight hours and you hold a passport that gains visa-free entry to Singapore, the landside hotels offer better value per hour and larger rooms. The cost is time. Clearing immigration at Changi takes 15 to 45 minutes depending on queue length, and you must re-clear security and immigration on return. That adds 60 to 90 minutes to your total layover. Only choose landside if your layover is ten hours or more.
YOTELAIR Singapore Changi Airport (Jewel, Level 4)
Minimum four-hour booking at SGD 80 for a premium cabin. Additional hours at SGD 18. The cabin is compact but soundproofed. Jewel is connected to Terminal 1 via walkway and to Terminals 2 and 3 by link bridge. No transfer required. The tradeoff: no window, no full bathroom (only a shower cubicle), and no natural light. Use it for a single sleep cycle, not for remote work.
Crowne Plaza Changi Airport (Terminal 3, Landside)
Connected directly to Terminal 3 via covered walkway. No transfer. Full hotel with pool, gym, and restaurant. For a layover of 12 hours or more, the Crowne Plaza makes sense because you get proper rest, a morning shower, and breakfast before the next flight. Downside: you pay for a full night even if you use only ten hours.
Capsule and Transfer Hotels
The Haven by JetQuay in Terminal 3 basement near the coach stand costs SGD 45 for a three-hour nap pod, with a shower-only option at SGD 15. It is landside, so you clear immigration to reach it. Park Avenue Changi sits 2.5 km from the airport with a complimentary bus every 30 minutes from 06:00 to 23:30. Changi Cove is 3 km out with a bus every 60 minutes from 07:00 to 22:00. Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore is 3.5 km out with a bus every 60 minutes from 06:00 to 23:00. These work only if the bus schedule matches your arrival and departure times. A missed transfer at Changi Cove means a taxi fare of SGD 10 to 15.

Which Option Fits Your Layover Length
Under 3 Hours
Do not sleep. Use a pay-per-use lounge with showers. Plaza Premium or SATS in your departure terminal. Book the day pass online before you travel. Walk-in availability drops during peak hours between 06:00 and 09:00 and again from 18:00 to 22:00.
3 to 5 Hours
JetQuay Quayside Sleep Lounge, transit side in Terminal 3. Accept it is a recliner, not a bed. If you need a flat surface, book Aerotel for six hours and accept the cost of the unused time.
6 to 9 Hours
Aerotel in Terminal 1 or Ambassador in Terminal 2 or 3. Both are on the transit side, so no visa. The Ambassador in Terminal 3 is the better choice if your connecting flight leaves from the same terminal. Aerotel is better if you want newer rooms and plan to use the Terminal 1 food court.
10 to 16 Hours
YOTELAIR in Jewel. Clear immigration, take the link bridge, pay for eight hours, and use the remaining time to walk the Jewel Rain Vortex and shop. The Crowne Plaza works only if you value a full hotel room over cost, because ten hours there costs the same as a full night.
Over 16 Hours
Book a night at the Crowne Plaza. Request a runway-view room. The pool is open 24 hours. Have dinner at the hotel's Aozora restaurant rather than walking back into the terminal.
Common Questions
Can I stay at an airside hotel if my connecting flight is in a different terminal?
Yes. The SkyTrain runs inside the transit zone between all terminals 24 hours a day. Budget ten minutes between T1 and T2, ten minutes between T2 and T3, and 15 minutes to or from T4 via transfer bus.
Do I need a visa to use YOTELAIR or Crowne Plaza?
Yes. Both are landside. You must clear Singapore immigration to reach them. Check Singapore's visa requirements for your passport before booking. Citizens of most European countries, the US, Australia, Japan, and South Korea get visa-free entry for up to 90 days.
What happens if my flight arrives at Terminal 4?
Terminal 4 is not connected by SkyTrain. Take the free transfer bus (every ten minutes) to Terminal 2 inside the transit zone, then walk or ride the SkyTrain to your hotel. Or choose the Ambassador Transit Lounge or Blossom Lounge in Terminal 4 itself.
Can I book a shower without a room at Aerotel or The Haven?
Yes. Aerotel charges SGD 25 per person for shower only. The Haven by JetQuay charges SGD 15 per person. Both include towel and toiletries. Neither requires a room booking.
