Where Singapore Passport Holders and Residents Can Travel Visa-Free
Visa-free and visa-on-arrival destinations for Singapore passport holders, plus how the list changes for permanent residents of Singapore.
Where Singapore Passport Holders and Residents Can Travel Visa Free
Before you book a ticket, know exactly which destinations let you in without a visa and which still demand paperwork. For a Singapore passport holder, the answer is 195 destinations visa free or with a visa on arrival, according to the 2026 Henley Passport Index, which ranks the Singapore passport first in the world. For permanent residents holding a non Singapore passport, the map changes entirely. Here is the breakdown by region, entry type, and what it means for you.
Associations of Southeast Asian Nations Free Movement
Within Southeast Asia, the Singapore passport gives you 30 days of visa free entry to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei, and the Philippines. Hong Kong allows 90 days, Macau 30 days, and Taiwan 30 days. No visa, no fee, no application. Just a passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay for all these countries except Japan, which only requires validity for the duration of your stay.
China 30 Day Visa Exemption and Transit Options
30 Day Visa Free Entry
As of February 9 2024, ordinary Singapore passport holders get 30 days visa free for tourism or business. Your passport must be valid for at least six months.
Transit Visa Exemptions
If you are transiting through China to a third country, you may also qualify for the 24 hour transit visa exemption at most international airports, the 72 hour exemption at Changsha, Guilin, and Harbin airports, or the 144 hour exemption at 16 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Xi'an. You must hold a confirmed onward ticket and remain within the designated region. Singapore passport holders are listed in China's 53 country transit waiver scheme.
United States ESTA and United Kingdom ETA
United States
Singapore passport holders enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program for up to 90 days. You need an approved ESTA before departure. The fee is USD 21 and the ESTA is valid for two years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay. Apply at least 72 hours before departure. If your ESTA is denied, you must apply for a B 2 tourist visa at the US embassy, which requires an interview and costs USD 185.
United Kingdom
The United Kingdom allows visa free entry for up to six months. An Electronic Travel Authorisation, known as ETA, is scheduled to be introduced. Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay. Singapore passport holders are exempt from the UK Direct Airside Transit Visa and the Visitor in Transit Visa for landside stays under 48 hours.
Schengen, Japan, South Korea and Other Major Destinations
Europe and East Asia
The Schengen Area, covering 27 European countries, allows 90 days visa free within any 180 day period. Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen zone. Japan gives 90 days visa free, with no minimum validity beyond the duration of stay. South Korea requires a K ETA for 90 days visa free. The fee is KRW 10,000 and the K ETA is valid for two years.
Australasia and India
Australia requires a free eVisitor for 90 days per visit. New Zealand requires an NZeTA for 90 days; the fee is NZD 17 through the app or NZD 23 through the website. India requires an e Tourist Visa for 30 days with double entry. The fee is USD 25 from July to March and USD 10 from April to June, based on 2024 rates.

Destinations That Still Require a Pre Arranged Visa
Where You Need a Visa in Advance
The handful of places that require a visa in advance include Russia, which operates a 14 day e Visa scheme as of 2023, and India, which requires the e Tourist Visa listed above. For most other countries not listed in the fact sheet, check the embassy website before booking. The failure case: arriving at Changi Airport with a ticket to a country that requires a visa you do not have. You will be denied boarding.
Passport Validity Rules by Destination
The minimum validities are strict. For Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Oman, Morocco, Fiji, Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica, Bahamas, Israel, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Brunei, you need at least six months of passport validity beyond your intended stay. For Turkey, you need 150 days from the date of entry. For South Africa, 30 days beyond your stay and two blank pages. For the Schengen Area, three months beyond departure. For Japan, South Korea, the UAE, Australia, New Zealand, the US, the UK, Georgia, Mauritius, Argentina, Chile, Panama, Barbados, and Jamaica, your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay only.
For Singapore Permanent Residents and Work Pass Holders
Your Passport Decides, Not Your PR Card
If you hold a Singapore permanent residence card but travel on an Indonesian, Indian, or Chinese passport, the visa free map is entirely different. Your entry conditions are determined by your passport nationality, not your PR status. Check the visa requirements for each destination based on the passport you will use at immigration. For re entry to Singapore, you must hold a valid Re Entry Permit, which is issued for five years and must be valid at the time of your departure and return. A work pass holder who is not a PR must carry their work pass card and a valid passport for re entry.
If your passport is from a country that does not qualify for visa free travel to a destination, you cannot use your Singapore PR card to bypass that requirement. An Indian passport holder with Singapore PR still needs an e Tourist Visa for India and a visa for most European countries. The only shortcut is the China 24 hour transit visa exemption, which is available at most Chinese airports if you hold a confirmed onward ticket to a third country, provided your nationality is on China's eligible list. Check the list before you book.
