Changi to Taoyuan Airport Nonstop on Scoot, Singapore Airlines, and More
A guide to the five airlines flying nonstop from Singapore to Taipei, why this route is a better-value East Asian city break, and the Hello Kitty jet option.
Singapore to Taipei Direct Flights That Are Cheap and Consistently Underrated
Why This Route Works
Your alarm goes off at 2:00 AM in Singapore. By 6:30 AM Taipei time you are eating dan bing from a stall in Da'an district, having spent SGD 80 on the flight. That is the value proposition of this route, and too many travellers skip it in favour of Tokyo or Hong Kong.
Six airlines fly nonstop from Changi to Taiwan Taoyuan International. The flight takes 4 hours 35 minutes to 5 hours. On a low cost carrier base fare you pay SGD 80 to 180 one way. On a full service carrier you pay SGD 250 to 600. The cheapest months to buy are May, September and October. The most expensive are December through February and June through July.
Taipei beats Tokyo and Hong Kong as an East Asian city break for two reasons. The flight is roughly two hours shorter than Singapore to Tokyo Narita. And the cost of a comparable hotel in central Taipei runs 30 to 50 percent below central Tokyo's rates. The city is less frantic than Hong Kong and its street food culture operates without the queue theatrics of Hong Kong's cha chaan tengs. You do not need to plan meals around reservation windows.
Which Airlines Fly Nonstop and What They Are Like
Full Service Carriers
Singapore Airlines operates two to three daily flights on SIN TPE. The product matches its long haul cabins: a full meal, 30 kg checked baggage and the KrisFlyer earn rate. EVA Air and China Airlines are the Taiwanese full service options. Both operate two to three daily departures each. EVA Air runs some SIN TPE flights with Hello Kitty themed cabin interiors, amenity kits and meal trays. This matters if you are flying with children under 10. The novelty holds for about 90 minutes, which is long enough. Book the Hello Kitty flight specifically when you search; not every EVA departure is themed.
Low Cost and Hybrid Carriers
Scoot operates daily red eye departures from Singapore around 1:30 AM SGT, arriving in Taipei around 5:45 AM TST. Base fares start at SGD 80 one way. Add a checked bag and a meal and you land at SGD 130 to 160. Jetstar Asia runs a similar schedule with similar pricing. Starlux Airlines launched SIN TPE in 2024 and positions itself as a premium low cost hybrid. You get a full meal and 23 kg checked bag in the fare, but the seat pitch is tighter than Singapore Airlines.
What to Know About Airport and Ground Transport
Taoyuan Airport MRT
All flights land at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) in Dayuan District, Taoyuan City, about 40 kilometres west of central Taipei. The Taoyuan Airport MRT connects TPE to Taipei Main Station in 35 minutes. The fare is NT$150. Trains run every quarter hour from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. If you land on the Scoot red eye at 5:45 AM, you will wait about 15 minutes for the first train.
Taxis and a Crucial Warning
A taxi to central Taipei costs NT$1,200 to NT$1,500 and takes 40 to 60 minutes depending on traffic.
Taoyuan Airport is not Songshan Airport. Songshan (TSA) sits inside Taipei city limits three kilometres from the city centre. No airline flies direct from Singapore to Songshan. Do not search for TSA flights when booking. You will end up on a routing through Tokyo Haneda or Seoul Gimpo and add three hours to your travel.
When to Fly and When to Avoid
Best Months and Weather Pitfalls
The sweet spot for this route is October and November. Temperatures in Taipei sit between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, humidity drops below 70 percent, and fares fall to their annual low. The plum rain season runs May through June. You get persistent drizzle, high humidity and reduced visibility from Taipei 101's observation deck. Flights still operate but the experience of the city is damp and grey.
Typhoon Season Strategy
Typhoon season runs June through November with peak activity in August and September. Expect two to four significant disruption events per season where TPE closes or delays departures for 12 to 24 hours. If you book a flight in peak typhoon weeks, take the first departure of the day. Afternoon and evening flights are the ones that get cancelled.
Visa Rules
Visa rules depend on your passport. Singapore passport holders enter Taiwan visa free for 30 days. Citizens of the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea get 90 days visa free. Citizens of India, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines require a visa unless they hold a valid visa or residence permit from certain countries. Check the Bureau of Consular Affairs website for your nationality before you book.
